Combination pill contains two types of hormone called oestrogen and progestogen. This pill stops ovulation, so that no eggs are released. It also thickens the mucus around the cervix, which makes it difficult for sperm to get through, and lastly it makes the lining of the womb thinner so that even if a fertilised egg were released, it would not be able to implant.
Apart from helping to prevent pregnancy, some of these pills help reduce spotty skin and relieve painful or irregular periods.
